Betreff: Clarification Specification II Datum: 17.07.2025 - 07:27 Uhr

Nachricht:

Dear Team,

due to further questions, we clarfy on the specification:

1) Is aluminium permissible as a material outside the magnet and also outside the cryostat on the transfer flange of the end box for adjusting the anticryostat?

Answer:
If by "transfer flange of the end box" is meant the one on the end box connector (#4 in Figure 3-1), then you can use almost anything there, it's very far from the fields.

2) To check the temperature homogeneity of +-1°C in the warm bore of the Anti-Cryostat, which measuring system is used and where are the reference points?

Answer:
In fact, it is sufficient to measure the temperature of the outer surface of the anticryostat's warm bore, which is simpler and will overestimate (this is very acceptable) the temperature spread inside. We are open to any design suggestions, but CERN solution (see bottom of page 6 in the attachment) with a redundant number of heaters, allowing some of them to be used as sensors, using the known dependence of copper resistance on temperature, seems very elegant. It should be noted that in more modern CERN anticryostats, flexible printed circuit boards glued to the surface are used as heaters - this solution provides even greater design flexibility.
We assume that the temperature measurement spots should cover the locations of the spacers between the warm and cold bores + the midpoints (in the longitudinal direction) - this will allow good localization of heat leaks.

3) Is the required permissible total temperature difference of +-1°C (acc. to table 4-5 of the spec) within the cryostat bore variable depending on the material? Assuming this is the case, what is the maximum permissible value for GFRP?

4) Could you explain the reasons for the strict temperature homogeneity requirements?

Answer to 3 and 4:
There is one answer to both questions: the permissible temperature difference inside the warm bore of the anticryostat doesn't depend on the material, since one of the main reasons for its necessity is the need to reduce optical distortions inside the bore to permissible values.
